Black label Giorgio Armani via Borgonuovo 21 Milano summer mini dress

Look quickly and you may think this was a simple black mini dress but on closer inspection the design and construction of this dress was quite something, whilst a boned bodice created structure, there was a contrasting softness that came with the gathered waistband and asymmetric hemline. Made in Italy in a beautiful silk blend. The same design featured in the Armani S/S 1991 collection.

Found in the UK / c.1990’s.

2

Vintage Hermes Paris skirt

A classic tweed pencil skirt by Hermes Paris with all the hallmarks you expect from this iconic fashion house. We love the mock wrap design and the signature leather belt feature on the waistband. Silk lined in the Hermes ‘H’ motif print.

1980’s Christian Lacroix bustier

Whilst rummaging around in a thrift store in California we were instantly drawn to this incredible vintage bustier / corset top by Christian Lacroix Paris. Boned with a sweetheart neckline and peplum waist detail in raw silk that created a truly stunning sculptural silhouette.

Vintage palm tree bag

On a rainy winter day we found summer! A classic example of the kitsch designs that were popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s we fell instantly in love with this super sweet mini handbag. Decorated with a woven raffia base and embroidered with palm tree motifs it screamed of summer days to come. A truly special and unique piece.

Found in Kent, UK / c. 1950’s - 1960s.

5

1980’s draped trench coat

This vintage Wallis Exclusive piece certainly had it all and is a stunning take on a classic double breasted trench which we all loved so much! From the amazing asymmetric draped storm flap to the high funnel neck and the incredible pleated back, it played with the traditional design details and elevated them to a whole new level. A firm Retold favourite!

Chanel sailor blouse

What is not to love…. the oversized sailor collar detail, the double breasted button up front and small metal flower buttons…the crisp white cotton. No one does nautical quite like 1980’s Chanel….

Found in the UK, we successfully re-homed this for a Retold consignment client this Summer.

7

Gianni Versace blazer

There are pieces that come into the studio and truly take our breath away like this incredible tailored blazer by Gianni Versace. A single breasted style with a unique origami style shoulder design detail and corduroy trims at the cuffs. A true showstopper and a fine example of 1980’s luxury design.

Purchased from the Versace store in London in the 1980’s we successfully re-homed this for a Retold consignment client this year.

8

Art Deco miniature handbag

In September this year we took our very first trip to the Les Puces de Saint Ouen in Paris (the worlds largest flea market!) and discovered this very special Art Deco bag. Mini in size, we fell in love with the angular shape and the structured top handle that was decorated with decadent metal and leather details around the clasp. Inside the bag had typical vanity details known to that era with a suspended purse in the middle. Finished in a rich burgundy hue, it’s a very special forever piece.

Found in Paris / c.1930’s / 1940’s.

9

Silk blend coat by Cerruti 1881.

We love nothing better than sourcing vintage outer-wear and the simplicity and effortless design of this piece was what caught our eye as well as yours! The relaxed fit raglan sleeve silhouette and lux quilted lining epitomises the minimal aesthetic lens we love to curate through for Retold. A truly timeless piece.

1980’s silk tartan co-ord

December brought us incredible party pieces and this 1980’s co-ord set by Viyella was by far the firm favourite.
